AMR20021023 - Brahms Pno Cto No. 2; Beethoven Symph No. 8
Garnet Ungar, pianist; The Varna Philharmonic Orchestra, Charles Demuynck, conductor
Digital downloads are available from iTunes.
Garnet Ungar, pianist, plays with the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Charles Demuynck in a live performance of Brahms’ 2nd Piano Concerto. It and Beethoven’s 8th Symphony were both recorded on May 5, 2000. There is something exciting about live recordings that the performances of these two works nicely demonstrate. Clavier magazine puts it clearly in the July/August 2002 issue: ""From the opening duet between horn and piano, followed by Brahms' cadenza introduction, Ungar wastes no time establishing a magisterial presence. His playing is specific: each motive is shaped with an identity of its own that remains memorable for the duration of the work, giving the musical material structural integrity."
